Winter Session 2010

Winter Session offers students the opportunity to earn
academic credit in courses that are in high demand,
to accelerate their degree completion, and to concentrate on personal
interests.
The Creative Writing Program's Winter Session workshops are open to NYU and Visiting (non-NYU) students. NYU students will register for the winter term on Albert or in person. Visting students should refer to the Winter Session Website for course and registration information. During Winter Session 2010 (January 4 - January 15), we will be offering the following three courses:
V39.0815.001 Creative Writing: Introduction to Fiction and Poetry
Matthew Rohrer, MTWRF, 2:00pm-5:30pm
No prerequisite. 4 points. This popular workshop offers an exciting introduction to the basic elements of poetry and fiction—with in-class writing, take-home reading and writing assignments, and substantive discussions of craft. The course is structured as a workshop, which means that students will receive feedback from their instructor and their fellow writers in a roundtable setting, and should be prepared to offer their classmates responses to their work.
V39.0816.001 Fiction: Intermediate Workshop
Irini Spanidou, MTWRF, 2:00pm-5:30pm
V39.0816.002 Fiction: Intermediate Workshop
Helen Schulman, MTWRF, 2:00pm-5:30pm
Prerequisite: V39.0815, V39.9815, V39.0818/9, V39.9818/9 or equivalent. 4 points.
The intermediate workshop offers budding fiction writers an opportunity to continue their pursuit of writing by focusing on a specific genre. The workshop integrates in-depth craft discussions and extensive outside reading to deepen students’ understanding of the genre and broaden their knowledge of the evolution of literary forms and techniques.
In addition to the daily workshops, students will attend two special afternoon readings: one featuring Winter Session faculty on Friday, January 15, and one featuring guest writers Bryan Charles, Meg Wolitzer, and Jon Woodward on Friday, January 8. A Q&A session and
small reception will follow each reading.
