The NYU Graduate Creative Writing Program Alumni have published numerous acclaimed books and won many major awards and prizes. We are delighted to recognize and celebrate here the accomplishments of our exceptional alumni.

In Recent News

	Salita Bryant won Boulevard's 2009 Poetry Contest for Emerging Poets for a group of poems. She received $1,000, and her poems will be published in the Spring 2010 issue of Boulevard.
	Sue Song (NYU 2007) was awarded a 2009 NYFA (New York Foundation for the Arts) Fellowship in Poetry.
	Paula Bohince's poem, "Mother's Quail," has been published in the September 21, 2009 issue of The New Yorker.
	Two-time Fulbright recipient Jacqueline Bishop has recently published her second poetry collection, Snapshots from Istanbul (August 2009, Peepal Tree Press).
	The Sheep Meadow Press will publish Dante Micheaux's (NYU 2008) debut collection of poems, Amorous Shepherd, in 2010.
	Megan Harlan (NYU 1993) has won the 2009 John Ciardi Prize for Poetry, and her first book of poems, Mapmaking, will be published by the University of Missouri's BkMk Press in 2010.
	Julie Carr has been named a winner of the 2009 National Poetry Series Prize. Additionally, her manuscript 100 Notes on Violence was selected by Rae Armantrout as the winner of the eighth annual Sawtooth Poetry Prize competition. The award is a $1,500 prize and publication of her book by Ahsahta Press in January 2010.
	Colin Cheney's debut collection, Here Be Monsters, was chosen by David Wojahn as a winner of the 2009 National Poetry Series Prize, and will be published by University of Georgia Press in Spring 2010.
	Mariko Nagai (NYU 1997) was the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Fellow in April/May of this year. Her collection of short stories, Georgic, won the 2009 G.S. Sharat Chandra Award and will be published by BkMk Press/ U-Missouri Kansas City in 2010.
	John Murillo received the 2009-2010 Jay C. and Ruth Halls Poetry Fellowship at the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing. His first collection of poems, entitled Up Jump the Boogie, is due in February 2010 from Cypher Books.
	J. Saunders Elmore's debut novel, The Amateur American, was published by Random House in August 2009. The novel follows a young American expatriate in France whose translating job for a shadowy powerbroker draws him into violent political intrigue, corruption and murder. Anthony Bregman's production outfit Likely Story has acquired Crown's upcoming political thriller "The Amateur American" for a big-screen adaptation.
	Janine Joseph has been awarded a 2009 Paul & Daisy Soros Foundation Fellowship. The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans provide opportunities for continuing generations of able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields. The Fellowships are grants for up to two years of graduate study in the United States.
	Laura Schecter's (NYU 2008) book, If I Should Fall, will be published under the name of Lauren Oliver in Spring 2010 by Bowen Press, a division of HarperCollins. It is a young adult novel about a teenage girl who must relive the day of her death seven times before she figures out how to save herself.
	Easy For You, Shannan Rouss's (NYU 2008) first short story collection, will be published by Simon & Schuster in March 2010.
	Caedra Scott-Flaherty's story "Rocky Point, Mexico," was featured in the August 2009 issue (#123) of One Story. Additionally, her story "Piecemeal" was the winner of Open City's 2008 RRofihe Trophy in short fiction.
	Maaza Mengiste's (NYU 2007) first novel, Beneath the Lion's Gaze, is due in 2010 from W. W. Norton & Company. An excerpt from the novel-in-progress appeared in New York Magazine's "Future Writing Stars in New York's Writing Programs."
	Sung J. Woo (NYU 2006) published his first novel, Everything Asian, on April 14, 2009, with Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin's Press.
