A Memorial for Stanley Kunitz
with Mark Doty, Marie Howe,Galway Kinnell, Gretchen Kunitz, Genine Lentine and Sharon Olds
"The poem comes in the form of a blessing-'like rapture breaking on the mind,'" wrote the late Stanley Kunitz in the introduction to Passing Through. When Mr. Kunitz died May 14, 2006, at 100, he left a legacy of creative endurance and an impassioned commitment to the preservation of poetry. Please join Mr. Kunitz's family, friends and fellow poets in a tribute. This event is presented in association with the Academy of American Poets, Poets House, the Poetry Society of America and the NYU Creative Writing Program. This is a free event.

Conor O'Callaghan and Vona Groarke
Distinguished Irish poets O'Callaghan and Groarke will read from their most recent collections, Fiction and Juniper Street respectively. Residents of Co. Louth, Ireland, O'Callaghan and Groarke spent the 2005-2006 academic year jointly holding the Heimbold Chair of Irish Studies at Villanova University. This year they are teaching creative writing at Wake Forest University. This event is co-sponsored by NYU’s Ireland House.

Junot Díaz
Celebrated fiction writer Junot Díaz is the author of Drown. His fiction has appeared in The New Yorker, African Voices, Best American Short Stories (1996, 1997, 1999, 2000), and in Pushcart Prize XXII.

A special reading by two Pulitzer Prize-winning poets. Galway Kinnell’s new book of poems, Strong Is Your Hold, will appear this fall. Philip Levine’s most recent book of poems is Breath.
